Good evening Trillium families:
Wow week two flew by. We have been having so much fun and have been working just as hard. We are still spending lots of our time learning what it is like to be in school and how to be responsible for ourselves, our classroom and our school. We are a great big family and are learning how to take care of each other. This week we started having classroom jobs. We have only done a few and will continue adding to them throughout the year. These jobs are to help teach responsibility. The students are responsible for cleaning up their areas at snack, and lunch. They are also responsible for all of their belongings. This is something that you can help us with. Have your student be responsible for their backpacks, lunch and coats in the morning and afternoons. We are also spending lots of time working on talking and sorting out conflicts with the students so they try working it out together instead of just going right to the teacher. We have been talking and practicing when to tell a teacher and when to try first, and then find help. The teachers are always available but we want the students to start becoming responsible for their own needs. We will provide the support necessary but request that students discuss the issue first.
We spent last week exploring and learning how to properly use our math manipulatives. We will continue work on this as well as adding in sorting and making patterns with them this week. We are also working on our literacy skills. We will be starting letter experts this week, each student will get a turn to become an expert on one letter and share it with the class as the teacher.
We have started working on goal setting and will continue to work on this all week. Our theme for the first part of the year is families, we have slowly started talking about each of our families, and who makes up our family. This is a project that will go on for much of the year in one way or another. Please send a picture of you and your family by Friday that can stay with us during this time.
