Trillium families
This week we spend a lot of time working on how to be a good friend. We have read the book “Have you filled a bucket today?”, numerous times and the kids love it. This book talks all about how everyone has a bucket and you can say nice things and be a bucket filler or say or do mean things and be a bucket dipper. We have had lots of discussions about this and when a student is feeling sad I have been hearing them say to their friends that was bucket dipping. From this point the kids are able to work together and solve the problem. We also have continued to work on learning how to read a calendar. This is very helpful for number identification and learning the days of the week.
The Kids had a great time at the Jog-a-thon and we were able to do a small amount of math with this before the event. This week we will use the numbers of laps ran and include that into our math. We are also going to be working on identifying numbers this week and matching the correct amount of items to each number.
We have continued to work on learning our letter of the day, this week in addition to practicing writing their letter in the handwriting book we will be making the letters of the day out of something in the classroom or students can from their body to make the letter. Allowing students more hands on and different types of exposure will help reinforce what we are learning.
Please remember the importance of reading with your student at home each night. One of the things I have been hearing a lot from students is “I can’t read”. I ask them to read me the pictures and give as much detail about the story as they can, this is meant to be a fun pre reading experience and not cause stress on anyone. At MRA we believe in a growth mindset, where having a positive idea of something is going to allow you more success. I tell the students that this is not something that they are expected to be able to do yet, but that we do not say I can’t in Trillium. It would be great if you could reinforce that we are at school to learn and grow, and that I can’t is not something that is helpful.
I would like to thank the parents who came out to help with the tie dying of the shirts, and to help with the Jog-a-thon.
Just a reminder if you have not sent in your family picture yet, we still need them.
Monday is Picture day!
Thursday is our Roots of Responsibility day
Friday is a teacher in-service day. No School
We are looking forward to a great week!
